How are we as Christians supposed to react to hearing that this Harry Potter hero was gay? I guess like a lot of readers, I never thought about the sexuality of most of the characters in the series. I mean, there is just so much background and life outside of the story line that isn’t told, why should any of us speculate on what wasn’t there? And besides, it’s a little weird thinking about the sexuality of a 115 year old guy, isn’t it? I don’t believe God condemns a gay man or woman because of their sexual identity. But God does hold us accountable for our actions. And the Bible is pretty clear on the concept that sex outside of marriage is wrong. There is no hint in the books or in Rowling’s comments that make us believe that Dumbledore had a sexual encounter. Rowling did make a comment about him being in love with a man 90 - 100 years earlier and it didn’t work out. But we don’t even know if the guy Albus was in love with was gay or not, much less whether they were ever intimate. As Christians, we are taught to resist temptation and fight the worldly lusts we have. As far as we can tell, Dumbledore never did give in to any improper urges. So - what’s the problem?

On a different note, wouldn’t it have been nice if there was a Christian in the books who demonstrated the power of God?
